Names
GERBERA viridifolia Sch. Bip. [family COMPOSITAE]
Lasiopus viridifolius DC. [family ], ! l. c. 19.
Gerbera Natalensis Sch. [family COMPOSITAE], ! Bip. Bot. Zeit. xxvii. p. 778.
Information
leaves short-petioled, subcoriaceous, elliptical or oblong, obtuse, slightly tapering at base, entire or denticulate, soon glabrous above, either quite glabrous or thinly pilose beneath, on both sides green; inv. sc. subglabrous; marginal achenes hispidulous; pappus fulvous. Crown of root very copiously silky. Petioles 1–2 in. long; lamina 1 1/2–2 1/2 inches wide. Rays “white above, red beneath” (M.E.B.). I have examined Krauss's original specimen in Hb. D. of “ G. Natalensis ,” Sch. B., and find it a “ Lasiopus; ” in other respects it agrees with the pilose forms of G. viridifolia. I have not seen ripe achenes; ovaries of the disc nearly glabrous; of the marg. fem. fl. hispidulous.
