Information
Tree up to 20 m tall or more, with spreading crown, trunk irregularly shaped, ± buttressed, up to 1.5 m in diam.; bark smooth grey; latex milky white; young branches with brownish bark, hirsute, outer layer often peeling in scales when dry. Leaves alternate; stipules lateral, free, tomentose, up to 2.5 cm long; petiole 2–8 cm long, hirsute, outer layer often peeling in scales when dry; blade papery, elliptic, broadly ovate or suborbicular, 10–25 x 10–22 cm, base cordate, margin entire, apex broadly rounded, sometimes apiculate or shortly acuminate, usually glabrescent above, glabrescent, puberulous, hirsute or velutinous below, venation as in F. populifolia, midrib with 6–8 pairs of lateral veins and glandular tissue below at the leaf base. Calyptra small, pubescent or velutinous, shed early. Figs 1 to few in the leaf axils, sessile or on peduncles up to 5 mm long; basal bracts 2–3, membranous, pubescent, united below, caducous in upper part, lower part forming persistent hairy cup-shaped structure; receptacle globose or depressed globose, 1–1.5(–2) cm in diam., tomentose to densely lanate, sometimes warty; ostiole prominent, 2-lipped, often finally gaping.
