Information
glabrous; stolons long (seen up to 6 in. long), clothed by pale-brown striate lanceolate scales 2/3 in. long, hardening into wiry rhizomes 1/10 in. in diam.; stems 4–16 in. long, tufted; leaves often as long as the stem, hardly 1/16 in. broad, channelled, solid and triangular in the upper half; leaf-sheaths white or brown, often much torn, sometimes less conspicuous; inflorescence a simple spike 2–5 in. long, in which the spikelets, mostly solitary, stand 1/8– 1/4 apart subspirally, sessile; bracts similar to the leaves, usually overtopping the spike; spikelets 1/5 in. long, ellipsoid, hard, shining chestnut or chestnut-red; glumes ovate, keeled, tip triangular, hardly mucronate; nut 2/5 the length of the glume, obovoid-ellipsoid, trigonous, smooth, black; style much shorter than the nut, branches 3 linear, long; gynophore obconic, margin subentire. null
