Information
glabrous; rhizome (seen) hardly 1 in. long, very stout; stems 5–11 in. long, stout, rigid, each with 1 dense compound head; leaf-sheaths pale-brown, torn, uppermost bearing a leaf; leaves 1/3– 2/3 the length of the stem, very rigid, 1/16 in. wide at the base, channelled, but nearly solid, triquetrous for their whole length; bracts 3–5 (head evidently compound), green or yellowish, lowest up to 2 1/2 in. long, dilated at the base with green margins, above the base similar to the leaves, very rigid; head 3/5 in. in diam.; glumes more than 1/4 in. long, oblong-lanceolate, upper male or empty, scarious; stamens 3; anthers long, linear, with short linear-lanceolate white crests; nut 2/5 the length of the glume (i.e. large for the genus), obovoid, obtuse, smooth, black, microscopically marked transversely with undulating lines; gynophore short, obpyramidal. null

Notes
Bolus, 4233 (the type of F. Bolusii, Boeck.), is identical with Burchell, 8152 (the type of F. lithosperma, Boeck.). The plant collected by Drège in Worcester, and also referred to F. lithosperma by Boeck., differs a good deal in appearance from all the others, but Mr. Bolus says it is only a “form” of the type.
