Information
Densely caespitose perennial; culms 14–20 cm. high. Leaf-blades basal, acicular, up to 10 cm. long, erect; ligule 3–3.5 mm. long. Panicle narrow, spiciform, 4–7 cm. long, the branches scabrid. Spikelets 2–3-flowered, 5–7 mm. long, green, herbaceous; glumes subequal, longer than the lowest floret and almost as long as the spikelet, the lower 4.5–5 mm. long, 3-nerved, the upper 5–6 mm. long, 3–5-nerved; lemmas keeled in the upper half, obtuse, awnless, the lowest 4–5 mm. long; palea shorter than the lemma, the keels minutely ciliolate; ovary glabrous; anthers 1 mm. long.

Notes
With its long glumes and muticous, though not hyaline, lemmas, the species may be mistaken for Koeleria capensis (p. 79). The most obvious difference is that the latter species has pubescent to tomentose panicle-branches.
