Information
Perennial herb, 5–50(–90) cm high, from a woody rootstock, the base of the stem woody and often black, or with several stems from an underground rootstock (and then with the most basal leaves scale-like); upper part of stems white-pubescent to almost glabrous. Leaves alternate, dense, linear to narrowly lanceolate, 6–35´0.5–2(–5) mm, margins entire or minutely serrulate, glandular and pilose to almost glabrous. Capitula solitary; stalk 3–13 cm long; phyllaries 3–4-seriate, linear to oblanceolate, 2–7.5 mm long. Ray florets ± 25, with rays pale pink to pale mauve to white, linear, 5–10´1.5 mm, the tube ± 3 mm long; disk florets numerous, yellow, the tube 2.5–3.8 mm long, lobes 0.3–0.5 mm long. Achenes brown, 1.3–2 mm long, sparsely to densely hairy, with a lateral rim; pappus bristles white, many, to 3 mm long, barbellate, deciduous.

Notes
Adhar, barkwa allele, farahod, himfide, meriqanle (Som.). The Somali plant is var. abyssinica. Two other varieties are recognized in Ethiopia. Herbarium material has often been named Aster hyssopifolius Berg. var. linifolius Harv. and the new combination Felicia hyssopifolia (Berg) Nees var. linifolia (Harv.) Cuf. was made in Cuf. Enum.: 1083 (1966), with various Somali collections cited. The record of F. ericifolia (Forssk.) Mendonça from Somalia in Cuf. Enum.: 1082 (1966) was also based on material of F. abyssinica.
