Perennial up to 70 cm high, erect or ascending; sheaths flabellate, often in bunches in the lower part of the stem. Racemes 2.5–8 cm long; fertile lemma ovate in profile, 1.5–2.1 mm long, glabrous or sparsely pubescent, ± ciliate on the keel and lateral nerves; 2nd lemma a little smaller, truncate.
