Information
rhizome subterranean, oblique, ovoid-oblong, subcylindrical or slightly depressed (Schlechter); leaves reduced to short linear acuminate sheaths situated at the base of the stem, pallid (Schlechter); stems generally fascicled (Schlechter), slender, somewhat flexuous, 1–2 ft. high, with a few narrow sheaths below; racemes lax, 6–8 in. long, 8–12-flowered; bracts ovate-lanceolate, acute, 1/6– 1/4 in. long; pedicels slender, 1/3 to over 1/2 in. long; flowers pallid (Schlechter); sepals linear, acute, very narrow at the base, over 3/4 in. long, all more or less erect, 1-nerved; petals oblong, apiculate, subconnivent, 3-nerved, under 1/2 in. long; lip 3-lobed, over 1/2 in. long; side lobes oblong, obtuse or rounded at the apex; front lobe suborbicular or obovate-oblong, undulate, over 1/6 in. long; disc with 5 crenulate keels, more prominent and verrucose or papillose in front; spur oblong, obtuse, somewhat diverging, over 1/6 in. long; column clavate, 1/4 in. long. null
Distribution
EASTERN REGION Delagoa Bay; near the Inkomati River, opposite Incanhini Island, 50 ft., and near Massinga in the Inhambane region at 100 ft., Schlechter; Inyamasan, Schlechter, 12075!
Notes
Schlechter describes this as allied to the Tropical African E. galcoloides, Kränzl., and E. gastrodioides, Schlechter, and remarks that all three are pallid and half-saprophytic leafless herbs.
