Information
Tree mostly to 40(–60) m but sometimes shrubby, with tessellated bark throughout. Juvenile leaves alternate, peltate, ovate; adult strongly discolorous, ovate to broadly lanceolate, 9–14 cm long, 2.5–4 cm wide, with conspicuous oil glands; petiole flattened, 1.5–2 cm long. Umbels usually in terminal panicles, 3–7-flowered; cream (rarely pink) flowers; peduncle terete or angular, 1.5–3.5[3.7] cm; pedicels 1–3 cm long. Buds clavate; operculum flattened-hemispherical, 2–4 mm long, 7–8 mm wide, apiculate. Calyx-tube urceolate, 5–10 mm long, 7–10 mm wide. Fruits urceolate, usually contracted at mouth, [2.7]3–5 cm long, [2.7]2.8–4 cm wide. Seeds black, not winged. Fig. 5/6, p. 30.
