Information
Loosely tufted annual; culms 8–60 cm. high, erect or ascending. Leaf-blades flat, 4–18 cm. long, 2–8 mm. wide. Panicle narrowly oblong to ovate, 3–14 cm. long, the spikelets subsessile on the stiff primary branches, these with or without crateriform glands. Spikelets 5–80-flowered, rotund to oblong-ovate, 3–20 mm. long and 3–4 mm. wide, straw-coloured tinged with pink or purple, breaking up from the base, the rhachilla persistent, glumes ovate, subequal, 1.2–2.5 mm. long, thinly chartaceous, sparsely pilose, acute; lemmas almost hemispherical, 1.5–2.5 mm. long, closely imbricate, coriaceous, keeled, glabrous or with a few short stiff bristles near the base of the lateral nerves, broadly rounded; palea falling soon after the lemma, the keels puberulous; anthers 3, 0.5 mm. long. Caryopsis planoconvex, 1–1.5 mm. long. Fig. 61/8, p. 193.
