Information
Perennial, arising from a short oblique rhizome; culms 30–100 cm. high. Leaf-blades narrow, often rolled, 4–25 cm. long, 2–4 mm. wide. Panicle broadly ovate, 7–25 cm. long, loose to moderately dense with the spikelets uniformly distributed. Spikelets 9–40-flowered, narrowly oblong, 5–20 mm. long and 2–3(–3.5) mm. wide, the opposite rows of florets not overlapping, leaving the rhachilla partly visible, greyish green to dark green, breaking up from the base, the rhachilla persistent; glumes subequal, narrowly ovate, 1.2–2 mm. long, acute; lemmas broadly ovate and acute to subacute when flattened, 1.7–2.5 mm. long, minutely asperulous; palea falling soon after the lemma, the keels scaberulous; anthers 3, 0.7–1 mm. long. Caryopsis narrowly ellipsoid, 0.7–1 mm. long. Fig. 61/4, p. 193.

Notes
E. inamoena closely resembles 31, E. atrovirens, but has a looser panicle with the spikelets evenly distributed, and a shortly rhizomatous base; also, on average, the spikelets are a little larger. At the other end of its range it grades almost imperceptibly into 36, E. chalarothyrsos, in which the spikelets are distinctly ovate.
