Notes
Habit, amount of branching, width of leaves, shape and size of stigma all vary a good deal in this species, but I can find no evidence to justify the elaborate subdivisions of Engler in V.E. 3 (2): 773 (1921). The indumentum, leaf-shape and characteristic colour of the rather small flowers together usually make E. salignum an easily recognized species. Some Madagascar gatherings look unusual in their rather broad foliage and slightly larger flowers, possibly induced by shade, but agree closely in essentials with continental African specimens.
