Information
Tufted perennial up to 1 m high; basal sheaths glabrous, at most lightly keeled. Racemes solitary (very rarely up to 3), 7–20 cm long. Spikelets (2–)3-flowered; fertile lemma 7–10 mm long (4–5 mm in 2-flowered forms), shortly bearded on the callus with hairs less than 2 mm long, scaberulous, with an awn 10–18 mm long; 2nd lemma similar to the fertile but smaller; 3rd lemma an awned rudiment.
