Information
Fairly slender perennial or perhaps sometimes annual forming dense swards with numerous crowded stems from the end of stolons and more scattered stems from horizontally spreading c. 1 mm thick stolons at soil level or slightly above; stems 3–20 cm long and 0.5–1.2 mm thick, terete to angular. Sheath grey above, brown or reddish brown below, the tip triangular, membranous. Spikelet ovate to lanceolate with acute tip, usually 4–5 x 2–2.5 mm, 10–30-flowered. Glumes 2.2–2.5 mm long, broadly ovate, grey to reddish brown, with a green thick midrib ending at or below the rounded apex; margin with pale irregular border. Perianth-bristles 6–7, of which at least 3 longer than the nutlet, light reddish brown with numerous recurved bristles. Style with 2 long branches. Nutlet 0.8–1 mm long (excluding the appendage), dark reddish brown and glossy, with a 0.3 mm long triangular pale appendage.

N1, 2 scattered in Africa but rare.
Altitude range
1350–1500 m.
