Information
Loosely tufted or rambling perennial up to 100 cm high. Panicle open or contracted and narrow, rarely racemose. Spikelets 5–6(–6.5) mm long; glumes ovate, 5-nerved, acute, unequal, the upper slightly more than half the length of the spikelet, the lower shorter; sterile lemmas lanceolate in profile, glabrous, awnless, the lower narrowed to a blunt tip, rarely transversely wrinkled, the upper with appendages and lateral hair-tufts at the base, often rugose, rounded at the tip.
Range
N2 tropical Africa, southern Arabia and sporadically in southern India; replaced by var. erecta in southern Africa.
