Perennial or shrubby perennial herb to 0.5(–1) m tall with several erect to decumbent branched stems from a woody rootstock; stems sparsely to densely puberulous or sericeous-puberulous with a mixture of glands and non-glandular hairs up to 0.5 mm long, no long pilose hairs (very rarely with pilose hairs to 2 mm long). Leaves ovate to elliptic, largest 2–6.5≈0.7–3 cm, apex subacute to subacuminate, subglabrous to puberulous, sometimes with stalked capitate glands when young, no long pilose hairs. Flowers in condensed axillary 1–7-flowered cymes or solitary towards tip of stems; peduncles and branches 1–2(–8) mm long, puberulous; outer bracts ovate, up to 1.2 cm long or as inner bracts and bracteoles: filiform to linear, up to 5 mm long, puberulent and with capitate glands. Calyx glandular-puberulent or densely so, sometimes with non-glandular hairs intermixed or mostly non-glandular, without (rarely with a few) pilose hairs over 1 mm long, 6–13(–17 in fruit) mm long; teeth 3–6 mm long, shorter than tube or same length. Corolla slightly 2-lipped, white with pale yellow throat or pale blue to blue or mauve sometimes with darker markings in throat, sparsely puberulent and with scattered capitate glands, 14–18(–22) mm long of which the linear tube 5–9 mm, the throat 4–5(–8) mm long and 4–5(–6) mm across apically, the limb 4–5(–8) mm long, throat longer than or same length as limb; lobes oblong or slightly obovate, erect or reflexed in lower lip. Free part of filaments 3–5 mm long, hairy at base, glabrous at apex; anthers 1–1.5 mm long, spurs ± 1/4 mm long. Capsule 10–13 mm long. Seed ± 2≈1.5 mm.
