Leaves ovate to elliptic (rarely narrowly or broadly so), largest 2–8(–10)≈0.7–2.6 cm, apex subacute to broadly rounded (rarely retuse), glabrous (rarely with a few puberulent hairs along midrib) beneath, with puberulous midrib above (very rarely with scattered capitate glands), margin minutely puberulent-ciliate or glabrous. Flowers in condensed axillary cymes with up to 12 flowers or some solitary, in lush specimens sometimes 2 clusters per axil; peduncle and branches up to 1 mm long; outer bracts up to 1.5(–2.5) cm long; inner bracts and bracteoles filiform or linear, up to 5 mm long. Notes
D. nagchana grows naturally in wet grassland, but is now often also found in secondary bushland and grassland, including lawns. In these habitats it often superficially resembles D. radicans but is normally easily distinguished by being almost glabrous, and by the short calyx (much shorter than fruits). Specimens intermediate with D. radicans have been found from these secondary habitats, mostly from the Kenyan highlands, and a limited amount of hybridisation cannot be ruled out. Examples are Napier 1520 from Nairobi, Kenya and Forbes 220 from Mbale, Uganda. Intermediates betweenD. nagchanaandD. multicaulisare equally rare. They have glandular calyx or bracts, but the capsule is longer than the calyx. An example isGraham2274 from Embu, Kenya.Hornby1072 from Maboko Island in Lake Victoria has a very large corolla (12 mm long), but seems in all other respects to be typicalD. nagchana.
