A tree; branchlets terete, covered with a grey bark, glabrous. Leaves large, oblong-elliptic, shortly pointed, cuneate or subobtuse at the base, 12–14 in. long, 3 1/2–5 in. broad, coriaceous, glabrous and shining on both surfaces; lateral nerves 8–9 on each side, spreading or ascending, branched near the margin, slightly impressed above, prominent below; veins very lax, slightly raised on the lower surface; petiole thick, 1/2 in. long, glabrous; stipules subpersistent, lanceolate, obtuse, 4–6 lin. long, very thick, sometimes nearly subterete, glabrous. Male flowers produced from the older parts of the branchlets; pedicel about 2 lin. long, rather stout, angular or sulcate, glabrous. Sepals 5, rarely 4, oblong-oblanceolate, 1 3/4 lin. long, 3/4 lin. broad, coriaceous, toothed in the upper part, glabrous. Stamens 4 or 5, inserted around the disk; filaments rather thick, glabrous; anthers rounded, 3/4 lin. long. Disk in the centre of the flower, saucer-shaped, thick, undulate, glabrous. Female flowers few together or subsolitary towards the ends of the branchlets; pedicel stout, at length about 1/2 in. long when in fruit, glabrous. Sepals 5, oblong, obtuse, nearly 2 lin. long, coriaceous, glabrous. Disk thick, annular, glabrous. Ovary ellipsoid, glabrous; style short; stigmas rounded, entire. Fruits ellipsoid, about 1/2 in. long and 5 lin. in diam. Mature seeds not seen.
