Information
Rhizome up to 1 cm (1.5 cm in life) in diameter, creeping, often encircling the boles of large trees, with spaced fronds and with dark brown rhizome-scales up to 6 mm long, broadened and peltate at base, strongly tapering, shortly spinulose at margins throughout. Sterile fronds up to 24(–30) cm long, up to 18 cm wide, sessile, erect, ovate in outline, chartaceous, with prominent veins, pinnatifid into narrowly oblong acute to obtuse lobes, glabrous except for minute brown laciniate scales along the midrib. Fertile fronds 0.3–1 m long, erect to arching, firmly herbaceous, stipitate; stipe pale brown, up to 37 cm long, 0.3–0.4 cm in diameter, glabrous; lamina up to 73 cm long and 44 cm wide, ovate-oblong in outline, with a narrow wing decurrent on to the stipe, pinnatifid almost to the midrib into linear-oblong acute-acuminate lobes up to 23 cm long, up to 4.5 cm wide with abruptly broadened adnate bases, margin minutely and irregularly notched, thinly set with brown laciniate scales when young, glabrous at maturity. Sori orange, 2–2.5 mm in diameter, round, borne close to the costa, about 3 mm apart. Fig. 3/1–3 (p. 12) & 4 (p. 13).

Notes
Roos dates D. volkensii from 1908 but in my view there is no description and Hieronymus says “can be separated off as D. volkensii if one places importanceon...”
