Information
Small tree or shrub 2–4(–8) tall; stems terete, densely pubescent to glabrescent, hairs simple, stellate, and subsessile- and stalked-glandular. Leaves suborbicular, distinctly 3-lobed, rarely 5-lobed or entire, 11–23 cm long, 7–18 cm wide, apex acuminate, margin coarsely and irregularly crenate or dentate, base deeply cordate, upper surface densely pubescent with long-armed stellate hairs; petiole 7–15 cm long; stipules lanceolate to broadly ovate, 0.8–1.3 cm long, 0.3–0.6 cm wide, long-acuminate. Inflorescence axillary, 6–21 cm long, corymbose or ± umbellate, many-flowered, peduncle 3.8–16.5 cm long, sparsely to densely pubescent; bracts ovate, 1–1.2 cm long, acuminate, pubescent or glabrescent, caducous; branches absent or condensed, branch-bracts not seen; pedicels 2.2–3.8 cm long; epicalyx bracts at calyx base, rarely on the pedicel, elliptic, ovate, oblong, lanceolate or oblanceolate, 1–1.4 cm long, 0.2–0.5 cm wide, acute to long-acuminate, caducous. Calyx lobes reflexed, lanceolate, 0.9–1.3 cm long, 0.2–0.8 cm wide, acute, pubescent outside. Petals spreading, pink or white, with or without a red base or veins, 1.2–2.5 cm long, 1–2.5 cm wide. Androecium 1.2 cm long; staminal tube 0.1–0.5 cm long, dilating towards apex or sides convex; staminodes 0.7–1.6 cm long; longest stamen 0.6–1 cm; anthers 0.2–0.5 cm long. Ovary globose, ovoid, tomentose, style 0.5–1.6 cm long, pubescent or glabrous, 5-branched. Capsule ovoid or globose, 0.5–1.5 cm in diameter, tomentose; seeds 0.3–0.4≈0.2 cm, dark brown to black.
