Notes
Var. argyrophyllus (Harms) Verdc. is only known from southeast Tanzania from a single gathering. It differs from the typical variety in having a dense velvety tomentum that totally obscures the leaflet surfaces.Dolichos kilimandscharicus is a widespread and variable species. The typical variety is a common plant which has frequently been known as Dolichos malosanus Taub. Unfortunately this name refers to a plant somewhat intermediate between subsp. kilimandscharicus and subsp. parviflorus. Subsp. parviflorus Verdc. is only in Kenya and Tanzania and differs from the typical subspecies in having a smaller calyx (c. 5 mm long instead of 6–11 mm long), a darker indumentum and a smaller standard (13–16 mm long instead of 15–29 mm).
