plant 1/2–1 1/2 ft. high; stems erect, rather slender, somewhat flexuous, covered with long spreading hairs below the middle; leaves cauline, sessile, with sheathing base, usually 1 or 2, suberect, lanceolate or narrowly oblong-lanceolate, acute or acuminate, 1–2 in. long; scapes 1/2–1 1/2 ft. high, 1- (rarely 2-) flowered; bracts ovate-anceolate, acute or acuminate, 3/4–1 in. long; pedicels 1/3– 1/2 in. long; flowers large, yellowish or greenish, often with the petals purple or lilac and darker at the margins; dorsal sepal erect, galeate, 10–12 lin. long, obovate-oblong, broad and angled above, then suddenly contracted into a setaceous point about as long as the limb; lateral sepals spreading, lanceolate, caudate-acuminate, 12–14 lin. long, with a conical very shallow sac near the base; petals cohering with the dorsal sepal, 5 lin. long, obovate-oblong, very obtuse, with a setaceous point 2 lin. long; lip spathulate-lanceolate, very narrow at the base, acuminate, decurved and usually hooked at the apex, 6–7 lin. long; appendage linear or oblong, somewhat lacerate, short or sometimes absent; column short; rostellum broadly cordate-ovate, subobtuse, with recurved margins; arms linear from a broader base, spirally twisted, acuminate. null
