plant about 1 3/4 ft. high; stem stout; leaves not seen; scapes about 1 3/4 ft. high, with numerous narrow acuminate sheaths above; spikes 5–6 in. long, somewhat dense, many-flowered; bracts ovate-lanceolate, acuminate, 1/3– 1/2 in. long; pedicels 7–8 lin. long; flowers medium-sized, purplish; dorsal sepal galeate, broadly ovate, acute, about 5 lin. long; spur broadly conical, obtuse, about a fifth as long as the limb; lateral sepals broadly elliptic-oblong, obtuse, about 5 lin. long; petals strongly falcate, acute or acuminate, somewhat crenulate on the outer margin, or sometimes bifid, with a large rounded auricle at the base in front, about 3 lin. long; lip broadly elliptic-oblong, subobtuse, entire or obscurely crenulate close to the apex; column short; anther reflexed; rostellum erect, shortly 3-lobed; stigma pulvinate. null
