plant 1–3 ft. high; stem very stout; leaves radical and cauline, suberect, the former oblong-lanceolate or oblong-ligulate, acute, attenuated at the base, 1/2–1 ft. long, the latter oblong-lanceolate, acute, 3–5 in. long, somewhat fleshy; scapes 1–3 ft. long, with oblong-lanceolate acuminate sheaths above; spikes 4–10 in. long, dense or somewhat lax, usually many-flowered; bracts oblong-lanceolate, very acuminate, 1 1/2–3 in. long; pedicels about 1 1/2 in. long; flowers very large, submembranous, pale yellow or cream-coloured, spotted with pale purple; dorsal sepal galeate, broadly ovate, subobtuse, 1 in. or more long; spur curved, cylindrical from a broadly conical base, obtuse, 1 1/2–1 3/4 in. long; lateral sepals oblique, narrowly ovate, subobtuse, 1 in. long; petals oblique, broadly ovate, subobtuse, about 3/4 in. long; lip oblong-lanceolate, obtuse, about 1 in. long; column 1/3 in. long; anther reflexed; rostellum short, obscurely 3-lobed; stigma pulvinate. null
