Information
Shrub (0.3)0.9–4.5 (rarely described as a woody herb or even a small tree); young stems pale brown or straw-coloured, glabrous or pubescent at first and becoming glabrous, eventually developing corky longitudinally furrowed bark. Leaves 3.5–11 x 0.8–4.5 cm., elliptic or elliptic-lanceolate to lanceolate, narrowly tapering to acuminate at the apex, cuneate at the base, glabrous or with hairs on midrib beneath only or quite densely hairy particularly on the nerves beneath; petiole 0–6 mm. long; stipules with 3–5 setae up to 3 mm. long from a base up to 5 mm. long. Inflorescences about 4–8 cm. wide; peduncles and secondary peduncles c. 1 cm. long; pedicels 6–10 mm. long. Calyx tube obconic, 2 mm. long, glabrous to densely hairy; limb white or whitish green, 2–2.7 x 1.5–2 cm., usually eccentrically elliptic, the larger part occasionally 3-lobed, glabrous or hairy particularly on the venation. Corolla slightly fragrant, white or tube greenish; tube (2.3)3–5 cm. long, glabrous or pubescent outside; lobes up to 7 x 3 3mm., triangular. Fruit 6–10 x 2.5–5 mm., the accrescent calyx limb 2.5–3.5 x 2–5 cm.
Habitat
In various types of woodland including Colophospermum, Bauhinia petersiana, Commiphora-Terminalia-Kirkia etc., bushland and even grassland on coastal and Kalahari Sand, also in rocky places on Karroo basalt etc.

Notes
Mostly well defined from the eastern African C. glaucescens (Hiern) Verdc. but some populations from Tanzania, Mpwapwa approach C. pubescens closely.
