Information
Loosely or compactly tufted annual. Culms 10–120 cm. high, ± slender, erect or geniculate, branched or simple. Leaf-blades lanceolate, lanceolate-oblong or narrowly ovate, 2–12 cm. long, 6–20 mm. wide, tip acute, rounded or abruptly constricted and cordate at the base, flat or inrolled when dry, glabrous, smooth or minutely rough beneath, 5–15-nerved. Inflorescence lanceolate-oblong or narrowly oblong, 4–22 cm. long, 1–2.5 cm. wide, feathery, pale green or tinged with purple, the glumes turning reddish-brown; racemes very slender, up to 4 cm. long. Spikelets 6–14-flowered, oblong, 5–11 mm. long; glumes very narrow, lower glume 2–3 mm. long, finely acute, upper glume 3–4 mm. long, acute or obtuse; lemmas oblong-linear in profile, 2.5–3.5 mm. long, pubescent below the middle, marginally ciliate with fine silky hairs 1–2 mm. long, entire or minutely 2- or more toothed at the tip; awn 2.5–5 mm. long, straight; callus shortly bearded.
