annual, branched from the base, glandularly scaberulous throughout, the young parts pubescent; branches leafy, ending in short peduncles; leaves oblong or linear-oblong, sinuate-toothed, narrowed at base, obtuse; inv. scales lanceolate-acuminate, black-dotted and albo-pilose, with membr. margins, longer than the disc; achenes of ray (young) trigonous, tuberculated; of disc flat, with thickened rim; rays orange. Nearly allied to D. sinuata, and perhaps a mere variety. It differs in its copious glandular pubescence and more evidently toothed leaves; black-dotted invol. scales and longer rays. Leaves 2–3 inches long, 4–5 lines wide, upper smaller. Rays 1 1/4 inch long, orange yellow. The fl. heads resemble those of a “marigold.”
