Information
A slender creeping annual, mat-forming. Culms 10–20 cm., erect from a creeping base, glabrous, nodes dark, glabrous. Leaf sheaths loosely to densely hairy. Ligule 0.3 mm. long, rim-like, shortly ciliate. Leaf laminae 1–3 × 0.2–0.4 cm., lanceolate to linear, flat, glabrous on both surfaces, scabrous along the margins, often with a few bristle hairs near the base. Inflorescence composed of 2–(3–4) racemes, 3–7 cm. long, one shortly, the other long pedicelled. Rhachis triquetrous, asymmetrically winged, undulating, up to 0.8 mm. broad, smooth with smooth margins. Pedicels 2-nate, 0.5–3 mm. long, triangular, smooth, asymmetrically broadened at the apex. Spikelets 1.8–2.1 mm. long, oblong. Inferior glume very short, truncate, nerveless, hyaline. Superior glume as long as the spikelet, oblong, 5-nerved, appressed hairy, hairs white to purplish, fine, papillose, with a circinately involute apex. Inferior lemma somewhat shorter than the spikelet, oblong with recurved margins, 7-nerved, appressed hairy. Superior lemma somewhat shorter than the spikelet, oblong, apiculate, pale yellowish green to bluish green, adaxially slightly gibbous.

Gravelly to sandy river banks.
