Shrublet c. 40 cm. tall; stems many, erect, virgate, glabrous, from a woody root-stock. Leaves sessile or shortly petiolate; lamina 7–16 × 0·5–2·5 cm., narrowly lanceolate or linear, papyraceous, glabrous on both surfaces, obtuse or rounded at the apex, cuneate at the base; lateral nerves prominent below; stipules linear, c. 3 mm. long, deciduous; petiole up to 7 mm. long. Inflorescence a few-flowered axillary cyme up to 9 cm. long; peduncle 1–3 cm. long, 2-forked. Flowers 5–8 mm. long; pedicels c. 4 mm. long, glabrous; bracts and bracteoles c. 2 mm. long, linear, deciduous. Calyx campanulate; sepals 4–5 mm. long, linear, acute tomentellous. Petals 5–6 mm. long, linear, 2-lobed to t of their length; squamulous glands minute. Stamens free. Ovary lanate; style 4–5 mm. long, pilose, 3-fid. Fruit (unripe) oblong-obovoid.
Habitat
Gregarious in plateau woodlands.
Distribution
Zambia N Mkupa, fl. ix.1949, Bullock 1196 (BR; EA; K). Also in the Transvaal (Codd 869 (PRE) ).
