Lower glume of sessile spikelet pubescent to pilose below the middle, the bulbous-based hairs mainly confined to the margin above.

DISTR. K1, 4, 7; T3, 4, 6–8 from Senegal, through the Middle East and India to Indonesia; introduced to southern Africa, tropical America and Australia
