Information
Tufted perennial with conspicuously bearded nodes, up to 100 cm high. Inflorescence composed of (1–)2–15 subdigitate, shortly pedunculate racemes; racemes 3–7 cm long, the spikelets subimbricate, with 0–6 smaller homogamous spikelet-pairs at the base. Sessile spikelet narrowly oblong, 2–6 cm long; lower glume firmly cartilaginous, without a pit, slightly concave, pubescent to villous below, with bulbous-based hairs above, obtuse to subacute; upper lemma with an awn 8–25 mm long. Pedicelled spikelet as long as the sessile, without a pit.
