Deciduous tree 4–9 m. tall, with dense irregular crown; bark grey-brown, rather thick and deeply fissured; slash pinkish, exuding reddish gum. Branchlets furrowed, thinly to densely spreading pubescent. Leaves mostly crowded on short lateral branches, ± 15–30 cm. long; stipules subulate, 4–10 mm. long, persistent; rhachis channelled; lateral leaflets 6–10 on either side, the uppermost at least usually subopposite, elliptic-oblong to oblong, up to 3–6 cm. long, 1–3 cm. wide, rounded at both ends, unequal-sided at base, the margins slightly incurved, glabrous to pubescent above, subglabrous to pubescent beneath particularly on nerves and margins; primary lateral nerves 5–8 on either side of midrib, looped some little distance from margin, prominent beneath. Inflorescences in axils of older or fallen leaves, with clusters of flowers along the simple rhachis, ± 8–30 cm. long; rhachis tomentose with brownish spreading hairs; bracts subulate or lanceolate, 3–4 mm. long; bracteoles near top of 4–6 mm. long pedicel, small. Calyx 5–7 mm. long, tomentellous. Corolla (10–)12–16 mm. long, creamy-white or yellowish with pinkish or purplish median patch on the standard, fragrant. Fruit oblong, narrowed at either end, 6.5–9 cm. long, 1.5–3 cm. wide, pubescent with a denser marginal fringe of long plumose hairs most developed along the upper edge. Fig. 19.
