Notes
VARIATION. Apart from minor differences in indumentum and foliage, the characters of D. boehmii are reasonably uniform over its extensive range in tropical Africa except in the western part of Tanganyika (including the type-locality). Here the stipules are well developed and rather persistent, the plants are generally practically glabrous and the number and shape of the leaflets (which remain as the sole distinguishing features from subsp. stuhlmannii) become somewhat variable. The type (cited above), Lindeman 298 ! (from Wala R. in Tabora District) and Boaler 341 ! (from 8 km. N. of Mpanda) are representative, while Carnochan 52 ! (from Mawere Shamba south of Tabora) and Semsei 3438 ! (from Chaya at the western boundary of the Dodoma District) are best associated with subsp. stuhlmannii. All may be regarded, however, as more or less intermediate.
