Information
Scandent herb; stems up to 1·5 m. long, striate, glabrous; tendrils present. Leaves digitately 3–9-foliolate; petioles up to 2·5 cm. long, glabrous; leaflet-lamina subsessile, up to 11 × 0·7 cm., linear-lanceolate, apex acuminate, margin sparsely serrate, base narrowly cuneate, teeth glandular, glabrous; stipules up to 1 cm. long, lanceolate to ovate-acuminate, margin glandular-toothed. Cymes on axillary branches, lax, trichotomous; peduncle up to 6 cm. long, glabrous; pedicels up to 5 mm. long, with sparse capitate glands; bracts and bracteoles up to 2 mm. long, lanceolate, margins glandular-toothed. Flower-bud 2–3·5 mm. long, oblong-cylindric, constricted near the middle, glabrous. Calyx pink, up to 1 mm. long, subentire, glabrous. Petals pale yellow. Ovary glabrous; style c. 1 mm. long apex scarcely capitate. Fruit red, c. 1·2 × 0·8 cm., ellipsoid, glabrous. Seed 1, c. 7 × 5 mm., ellipsoid, with dorsal crest and prominently horizontally rugose.
Habitat
Usually on granite or serpentine rocks.
Range
Not known outside S. Rhodesia.
