Information
Stem up to 3 ft. high, at the top trigonous. Leaves 3/4 the length of the stem, up to 1/2 in. broad, somewhat 3-nerved. Umbel decompound, 8–14 in. in diam., with innumerable spikes; bracts overtopping the umbel, similar to the leaves. Spikelets 3–5 together, 1/5– 1/4 by 1/16 in., compressed, brown, 6–12-flowered. Glume ovate, green, 5-nerved on the back, usually very minutely pubescent near the excurrent mucro. Nut 1/2– 3/5 the length of the glume, small, ellipsoid. Style short; branches 3, longish.

Distribution (external)
Common in Madagascar
Notes
This species differs from C. Deckenii by the smaller spikelets. Buchanan, 647, and Whyte's example are identical with the typical C. Baroni from Madagascar. As to Holst, 3385, it is nearer C. Deckenii than C. Mannii, but the bracts attain 7/8 in. in width, so that it does not exactly match anything else; the spikelets are too long with too distant glumes to match C. Ajax .
