Information
glabrous; roots fibrous, tough; stems tufted, 1–2 ft. long; leaves 12 by 1/8– 1/6 in. (rarely 1/4 in.) broad; umbel 3–1 in. in diam., contracted often into 1 head of 6–30 spikelets; bracts 3, lowest 3–8 in. long, similar to the leaves; spikes of 3–8 somewhat loosely spicate spikelets, ebracteate; spikelets often up to 1 by 1/4 in., compressed, linear-oblong, chestnut-brown, 28-nutted; glumes ovate, boat-shaped, obtuse, inflated; style-branches 2; nut small, obovoid, turgidly biconvex, black, scarcely 1/4 as long as the glume, obscurely transversely lineolate by reason of the small longitudinally-oblong superficial cells. null
