Terrestrial, rarely epiphytic, herb 15–44 cm tall.Tubers usually 2, c. 1.5 cm long, ovoid, villous.Basal leaf usually 1, sometimes 2, dark olive-green above, purple below, 5–20 × 2–5 cm, elliptic, acute, narrowing to a petiole up to 4.5 cm long; peduncle leaves usually 3, sheath-like, 2–2.5 cm long.Peduncle sparsely hairy.Inflorescence 3.5–12 cm long, several flowered; rhachis glandular-hairy; bracts 7–12 mm long, lanceolate, acute; pedicel 2–5 mm long; ovary 8–11 mm, semi-erect, glandular-hairy.Flowers pink-purple to deep purple, with darker marks in throat.Dorsal sepal 5–7 × 4 mm, ovate, acute, convex; lateral sepals 6–9 × 2.5–4 mm, obliquely ovate, spreading or deflexed.Petals 4–5 × 2.3 mm, forming hood with dorsal sepal.Lip 7–10 × 5–7 mm, 3-lobed at about the middle, the mid-lobe larger than the side lobes.All lobes triangular, obtuse; mid-lobe c. 3 mm long, side lobes 1–1.5 mm long.Spur 8–10 mm long, straight, parallel to ovary; slightly swollen towards apex.Column 3 mm long.
