Information
Herb, 0.2–0.5 m tall, from a taproot; stems and leaves ± softly pilose with spreading to ± appressed hairs. Leaves lanceolate to narrowly elliptic, 2–18 x 0.5–2.5 cm, attenuate at the base, acute at the apex, the upper ones with clasping bases, the lower ones petiolate. Inflorescences usually with paired branches, quickly elongating and becoming lax, up to c. 25 cm long; pedicels 2–4 mm long, elongating to 5–18 mm and recurved in fruit. Calyx-lobes ovate-lanceolate, 2.5–4(–6) mm long, hairy outside. Corolla blue; tube c. 2.5 mm long; lobes c. 4–5 mm long. Style c. 1 mm long, elongating in fruit. Nutlets compressed obovoid to subglobose, 4–5 mm in diam., covered ± all over with c. 0.5 mm long glochidiate spines; fruiting style up to 3 mm long, angular.
