Information
Weak-stemmed annual; culms 20–80 cm. high. Leaf-blades broadly linear to narrowly lanceolate, 5–30 cm. long, 3–11 mm. wide, at least the lower blades falsely petiolate and sagittate, the lobes 2–30 mm. long. Panicle narrowly oblong to ovate, 3–15 cm. long, the spikelets secund along scaberulous raceme-like primary branches; bristles 2–15 mm. long. Spikelets suborbicular, 2 mm. long, laterally compressed; lower glume 1/3, the upper 1/2 as long as the spikelet; lower floret ♂ or barren, the lemma not grooved, its palea ± reduced; upper lemma conspicuously gibbous, keeled, rugose. Notes
The curious leaf-blades and strongly gibbous spikelets represent the extreme expression of tendencies manifested within Setaria, and scarcely justify the isolation of this species in a separate genus Cymbosetaria.
