Information
Tufted perennial up to 100 cm high; leaves attenuate at the base. False panicle linear to narrowly oblong, 10–30 cm long; racemes 15–35 mm long, the lowermost pedicel oblong but not swollen, free from the adjacent internode. Sessile spikelet narrowly lanceolate, 4.5–7 mm long; lower glume chartaceous, nerveless or with 1–3 short nerves near the tip, concave between the keels, these rounded in the lower 1/2; awn of upper lemma 10–20 mm long, with distinct column. Pedicelled spikelet narrowly lanceolate, 4–7 mm long.
Range
N1–3; C1 eastern Africa from Ethiopia to the Cape, and northern Pakistan to Nepal.
Altitude range
40–2130 m.
