Notes
var. galpinii forms a morphological and geographical link between var. monteiroi and C.pallidicaulis, which in their typical forms look quite different. Without pods some difficulty may be found in naming plants from southern Zimbabwe, and in the province of Maputo there is an intergradation of the two varieties. Although there is a case for treating these taxa as three subspecies, the changing of familiar names does not really seem to be justified, particularly as the two existing varieties seem to intergrade to the greater extent (see Polhill, loc. cit. (1982)).
