Information
Erect or rarely decumbent; branches rather long and straight with obvious tufts of small leaves (on short shoots) at the nodes, subappressed white pubescent. Leaflets 4–12(20) × 2–7(10) mm, linear-oblanceolate to obovate, usually hairy above when young, glabrescent; petiole 2–8 mm long. Primary racemes few, sometimes terminal, mostly leaf-opposed, slender, 2–5 cm long, 4–6-flowered, determinate; supplementary inflorescences numerous from tuft-like short shoots, 1–2-flowered on a filiform axis usually 1–2.5 cm (sometimes shorter, but then leaves also small and crowded); bracts 0.5–2 mm. Keel 8–12 mm long.
Habitat
Flowers almost all year round. Woodland and wooded grassland
Range
eastern Tanzania, extending southwards in Mozambique to Gorongosa, up the Zambezi and Shire Rivers, intergrading with subsp. virgulata (see above) in Tete and southern Malawi, then common all around Lake Malawi.
