Information
Standard 6–8 mm wide, rounded-obovate to oblate, tomentellous outside; bracts 2–4 mm long; petioles mostly 3–12 mm long.
Habitat
Miombo and its fringes on gritty soils
Range
Katanga as far west as the Kundelungu Plateau.

Notes
A very distinctive large-flowered form of the species, but apparently intergrading with var. filicaulis at the top of the escarpment south of Lake Tanganyika, e.g. Kambole Escarpment, late fl. & fr. 14.vi.1961, Richards 15278 (K).var. decaulescens (R. Wilczek) Polhill, from the Luapula drainage area in Katanga between Lubumbashi and Lake Mweru, is similar to var. filicaulis, but is altogether much less hairy, the calyx subglabrous and the standard puberulous only towards the apex.
