Information
Tufted annual or short-lived perennial; culms up to 150 cm. high, slender, erect or geniculately ascending. Leaf-blades broad, lanceolate-oblong to oblong, 4–12 cm. long, 6–18 mm. wide, flat, thin and flaccid, smooth on both sides, acute. Inflorescence oblong to narrowly oblong, 15–45 cm. long, pale green to yellowish; racemes numerous, very slender, 2.5–9 cm. long, ascending, straight or slightly arching. Spikelets 1-flowered, 1.9–2.8 mm. long, subsessile, overlapping; glumes broadly linear in profile, subequal, exceeding the floret, sharply acuminate, lower glume 1.7–2.3 mm. long, slightly falcate, upper glume 1.8–2.4 mm. long, straight; lemma narrowly elliptic in profile, 1.5–1.7 mm. long, minutely hairy along the nerves, entire, acute. Caryopsis narrowly elliptic, 1–1.2 mm. long, dark reddish brown, trigonous in cross-section, deeply sulcate on the hilar side.

L. uniflora is a very variable species, ranging from delicate thin-stemmed annuals to much stouter, more erect plants with somewhat longer thicker leaves and perennating buds among the roots.
