Notes
C. brevicaudata is a variable species and the subspecies described above are not always easy to distinguish and may not all prove worth retaining. Subsp. baptistarum in certain of its forms approaches C. affinis very closely and subsp. schliebenii is perhaps as closely related to C. brownii as it is to subsp. brevicaudata. Specimens of subsp. brevicaudata from K4 tend to have longer bracteoles than those from the coast, thus approaching subsp. burttii.
