a shrub 6 ft. high; branches glabrous, terete; leaves ovate, acuminate, more or less acute at the base, serrate or dentate, glabrous, 2 1/2 in. long, 1 1/4 in. broad; petiole slender, up to 1 1/2 in. long; panicles terminal and lateral, corymbose, shortly peduncled, branches glabrous or puberulous; calyx campanulate, irregularly 3–4-toothed, glabrous, 2 1/2 lin. long; corolla 4- (rarely 5-) lobed, 3 1/2 lin. long, varying much in depth of lobing; lobes oblong, sinuate; anthers oblong, rather longer than the filaments; ovary glabrous. null
