Information
Evergreen shrub or tree, 1.5–2(–7) m tall; twigs glabrous, with bark shiny dark reddish to greyish, flaking. Leaf-blades leathery, lanceolate to narrowly ovate or elliptic, (3–)5–8.5(–11) x (1–) 2–3(–3.7) cm, often drying blackish, very shiny above, acuminate or acute at apex; petiole (3–)5–9(–11) mm long, glabrous; stipules 0.5–2(–3) mm long, obtuse or acute, hairy within, soon falling. Inflorescences sessile or on up to 2.5 cm long peduncle, terminal, often supported by rudimentary leaves, up to 6.5 cm across (excl. corollas); first order branches 5–13 mm long; pedicels 5–14 mm long. Calyx glabrous or slightly puberulous; limb-tube up to 2 mm long, truncate or with very short teeth. Corolla white or yellowish, glabrous outside, pubescent at throat; tube (1.5–)3–5 mm long; lobes 5–6 mm long. Fruit black when ripe, 6–7.5(–8) mm in diam., with persistent calyx-limb, 1-seeded; seed spherical, endosperm deeply ruminate.
