Tree to 10 m tall; bark fissured; branches glabrous to sparsely appressed pilose when young. Leaves lanceolate, up to 11 x 2 cm, acute at the apex, attenuate at the base, glabrous or practically so. Flowers white or cream, in globose or slightly elongated heads 5–6 mm in diam. on sericeous peduncles; bracts triangular-acuminate, pubescent; receptacle and sepals pubescent. Fruit c. 2.5 x 2.5 mm, pubescent, without apical beak.

N2, 3; cultivated also in at least N1 and S2 also cultivated, e.g., in Eritrea, Arabia and Kenya.
Damas, hodeti (Som.). The wood of the damas tree provides excellent timber and charcoal, and the gum is used for chest and bowel complaints. It is one of the most common street trees in Mogadishu.
