Information
Subshrub or herb with fleshy-woody base, 0.2–1 m tall; stems moderately to densely pubescent with spreading usually 2–4 mm long hairs. Leaves petiolate, slightly fleshy, densely or moderately pubescent; blade ovate or ovate-elliptic, 15–70 × 12–50 mm, apex rounded, obtuse, acute or sometimes slightly acuminate, base cuneate or truncate and attenuate near the petiole, margin crenate. Inflorescences mostly lax; bracts early deciduous; cymes (3–)5–7-flowered, subsessile; pedicels often suberect and recurved in the apical part, 3–9 mm long in the fruiting stage, with long multicellular-stalked glandular hairs with narrow heads. Fruiting calyx ± upcurved, 4.5–9 mm long; upper lobe broadly ovate, concave, decurrent; lower lobes 2.5–4 mm long, as long as or very slightly longer than the lateral lobes. Corolla 8–18 mm long, violet or blue; tube short, strongly bent and almost spur-like at the bend, slightly but abruptly widened at the bend; lower lip 5–13 mm long, much longer than upper lip. Stamens connate. Nutlets c. 1.1 × 0.9 mm, black, glossy, producing mucilage when wet.

Notes
Plants from N1, including the type of C. somalensis, are comparatively small. Plants from N2 and N3 differ by being slightly hairy inside the calyx throat.
