Information
Annual herb, simple or branched, up to 4.5 dm. or more tall, glabrous, sometimes glaucous. Stem sometimes with a few minute prickles and sometimes rather rough with scars of old leaf-bases. Leaves petiolate, (3–)5–7(–9)-foliolate; leaflets filiform-linear to narrowly linear-oblanceolate, up to 40 mm. long, 1.5 mm. wide; petiole 1.5–4 cm. long. Inflorescence rather lax, 4–20 cm. long. Sepals linear-lanceolate or lanceolate, up to 1 cm. long. Petals unequal, yellow, mauve at the base. Stamens 2–4; staminodes 4–12. Gynophore 5–15 mm. long. Capsules 7–10 cm. long. Seeds 1.5 mm. in diameter, densely pilose when mature. Fig. 2/1, p. 10.

DISTR. K1–4, 6; T2 Sudan Republic and Ethiopia, also Mozambique, Southern Rhodesia and Angola to Cape Province, South Africa

Notes
C. hochstetteri differs in no way from C. diandra except in having 4 fertile stamens. This is not regarded as adequate for taxonomic distinction, especially as in one example of C. diandra the fertile stamens numbered 3.
